Contractor Fined in San Diego Hotel Explosion

A Mira Mesa plumbing and heating contractor will have to pay more than $67,000 in fines for its role in the May 2008 explosion of a San Diego hotel, according to published reports.

The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) levied the fines against Sherwood Mechanical Inc. for four violations.  Six other contractors were also fined.

Fourteen workers were seriously burned at the Bayside Hilton when a portion of the structure exploded.  The hotel was under construction.
