| Nissan is recalling more than 242,000 Pathfinders, Frontiers and Xterra vehicles because the airbags might not deploy in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Model year 2005-2009 vehicles that were originally sold or are currently registered in CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, or the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA are affected by the recall. The road salt used in those areas could mix with precipitation and enter the front crash zone sensor housing on the vehicles. If this happens, the sensor could rust, and the driver and passenger front airbags may not deploy in a crash, NHTSA said. According to NHTSA, the red airbag warning light will illuminate if the sensor is rusted.
