GM Recalls More Than One Million Vehicles

General Motors is recalling 1,497,516 vehicles because of the risk of an engine compartment fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  The recalled vehicles are the 1997-2003 Buick Regal; the 1998-2003 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo and Impala; the 1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue; and the 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine.

The recalled vehicles may allow engine oil to be deposited on the exhaust manifold during hard braking.  If the oil runs below the heat shield on a hot manifold, a fire may start, NHTSA said.
