Motorcycle rider dies after hitting car stalled on I-15

A 65-year-old Poway man died yesterday after his motorcycle struck a stalled car on Interstate 15 in Escondido, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was northbound near Via Rancho Parkway when he struck the rear of a Volkswagen Jetta. He was thrown from his Honda CBR motorcycle, officials said.

The man, whose identity was withheld until his family could be notified, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about 11:20 a.m., the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
