Police Detective Injured in Chase

On August 21, 2009, Chula Vista police said that a detective was pinned inside a police car after being struck by a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The crash occurred on Melrose Avenue and Main Street.

California Highway Patrol was alerted to the vehicle, which was equipped with a Lo-Jack, and Chula Vista police assisted the officers. Officers attempted to stop the driver of the stolen vehicle using spike strips, but the driver fled before the strips could be positioned. Authorities chased the vehicle for about half a block when it ran into the police detective car.

The collision also knocked down a power pole, causing power interruption for residents in parts of the City for several hours.

The police detective suffered neck, back and leg injuries.
