Propane Tank Fumes Ignite Fire

by on August 27, 2009

On August 22, 2009, residual fumes caught fire when a forklift was refueling at a 300-gallon propane tank in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego. The tank had been used to provide fuel for vehicles and forklifts that belong to the John Lenore & Co., a beverage distributor on Delevan Drive.

Vented propane that went into the air also caught fire and spread to a building and vegetation nearby in front of the business on Delevan Drive near a canyon east of 34th Street.  Residents  located along 34th Street between A Street and Delevan Drive were evacuated as a precaution.

Residents reported hearing a deep rumble and feeling the ground shaking, followed by an explosion.  Authorities said no one was injured by the flames.
