Motorcyclist killed in University Heights

September 4, 2009 – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle near the intersection of Arizona and Meade streets yesterday evening around 6:25 p.m. in University Heights, according to San Diego police. CPR was performed on the unidentified motorcyclist before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. His identity will not be made public until his family is notified. September 4, 2009 – A person was struck and killed on I-8 early this morning. The accident was reported just before 12:15 a.m. just west of College Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Man finds animal remains in Pepsi can

The Food and Drug Administrationsays a test shows that either a frog or a toad was in a Florida man’s soda can, but it’s not clear how it got there. The FDA confirmed the remains of an animal were in Fred Denegri’s can of Diet Pepsi. Denegri popped open the can July 23 as he was grilling dinner in Ormond Beach. He thought the animal was a rodent. Pepsi spokesman Jeff Dahncke says the company is aware of the testing and stands by its manufacturing process. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation, Pirelli is recalling certain P Zero Corsa tires, size 285/35 zr19 (99y) K1, IP 1778200 (left) and IP 1778300 (right) manufactured between June 2007 and July 2009.  The tires, developed by Pirelli primarily for use on high performance cars at drivers’ schools and race tracks, are being recalled because of the possibility that partial tread and/or belt edge separation can occur at high speeds at and over 168 mph.  This separation could result in a vehicle crash/rollover. Pfizer to pay record $2.3 billion penalty for unlawful prescription-drug promotions

Pfizer Inc., the world’s largest drug maker, will pay a record $2.3 billion civil and criminal penalty over unlawful prescription-drug promotions. The Justice Department said that the settlement included the largest criminal fine in U.S. history – $1.2 billion. The agreement also included a criminal forfeiture of $105 million. Authorities called Pfizer a repeat offender, noting it is the fourth such settlement of government charges in the last decade. They said the government will monitor the company’s conduct for the next five years to rein in the abuses. San Bernardino man killed in crash ID’d

Authorities have released the name of a 20-year-old Yucaipa man killed last night after he crashed a compact car into the back of a parked big-rig along Interstate 10 in Redlands. Victor John Partnoff died within 20 minutes of the 6:24 p.m. wreck Tuesday just east of Wasbash Avenue, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials. Partnoff was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The 18-wheeler was stopped along the right shoulder of the traffic lanes because of mechanical problems. Riverside County Motorcyclist killed in collision with pick-up ID’d

September 2, 2009 – The 39-year-old Riverside motorcyclist who died last night after colliding with a pickup truck that had turned left in front of him has been identified by authorities. Raymond Oren Reiter died at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Community Hospital, less than an hour after the wreck along the 5900 block of Grand Avenue in Riverside, according to Riverside County coroner’s officials. Woman dies after North County crash

September 2, 2009 – A 21-year-old Vista woman died this morning after being involved in a collision in North County . The accident at SR-76 and East Vista Way was reported just before 11:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said. The woman was airlifted to Palomar Hospital where she later died.
