October 1, 2009 – Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was found inside a Volkswagen sedan on a SR-56 undercrossing early Thursday morning.

She was found in the vehicle beneath SR-56 on Carmel Valley Road just west of Camino del Sur, across from the Evergreen Nursery, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ray Scheidnes. The car appeared to have been in an accident.

There was a broken guard rail on the right shoulder of SR-56 west of Camino del Sur, but it was not immediately known if the car had gone off the freeway, Scheidnes said.
