Man Struck By Car Crossing College Avenue

An 81-year-old man was struck by a car as he walked across College Avenue Thursday night.  The driver, a 59-year-old woman, was going south around 7 p.m. when she struck the man, who was crossing mid-block near El Cajon Boulevard.  The pedestrian suffered arm and leg injuries and was taken to a hospital. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of Honda snowblowers due to risk of fire hazard.  Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately.  About 18,500 units are being recalled by American Honda Motor Co. Inc., of Torrance, Calif.   The snowblowers were soldat Honda Power Equipment dealers nationwide from April 2005 through November 2010 for between $2,000 and $3,400. The fuel tank joint and o-ring located on the underside of the fuel tank of the snowblowers can seep or drip fuel over time, posing a fire hazard.  Honda has received 90 reports of fuel either seeping or dripping. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of  STIHL MS 361C chain saws (C-Q version) due to risk of laceration hazard.  The recall affects about 5,000 chainsaws sold at authorized STIHL dealers nationwide from February 2004 through August 2009 for about $640.  The chainsaws were manufactured in the U.S. by STIHL Incorporated of Virginia Beach, Va.  The throttle trigger may stick after it has been released by the operator, which could cause the engine to continue to run at a speed that drives the saw chain. Four cars collided on the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge Sunday, injuring four.  The accident occurred around 2 p.m. near the bridge’s I-5 interchange.  San Diego firefighters arrived at the scene and transported the injured to Scripps Mercy Hospital. The extent of their injuries has not yet been released.  The cause of the accident is not known at this time. The San Diego County coroner’s office has identified the 16-year-old El Centro girl who died after her car crashed into the Central Main Canal on November 20th. Betsua Alonso died Friday at University of California San Diego Medical Center where she was flown following the crash.  Betsua was a passenger in a Ford F-150 that was heading south on Austin Road when the vehicle somehow lost control and end up in the canal, according to the CA Highway Patrol.   The driver was also a 16-year-old El Centro resident. The 17-year-old student who was killed Tuesday in a car accident on Glorietta Boulevard has been identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Dylan Bunker was the front passenger in a pickup truck that lost control, hopped the curb and slammed into a tree on the east side of the 900 block of Glorietta Boulevard around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday.  Bunker, a junior at Coronado High School, was one of three people in the vehicle.
