January 1, 2010 – A 55-year-old Otay Mesa lumber storage yard worker who died when several 20-foot boards fell off a truck and knocked him to the ground was identified today.
Alberto Herrera-Garcia, who lived with his wife in Ensenada, Mexico, died around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Herrera-Garcia was picking up a load of wood planks at lot on 9960 Marconi Drive a few minutes after 9:15 a.m. Thursday when the load shifted off a nearby forklift and fell onto him, officials said.
When paramedics arrived on the scene minutes later, they found Herrera- Garcia without a pulse, suffering numerous crushing injuries, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Diego Police, District Attorney’s Office, and the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, better known as CAL/OSHA, are looking into incident, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
