January 1, 2010 – A five-vehicle crash in the Midway District left a mother and daughter injured Thursday morning, officials said. The driver of a Toyota 4-Runner reportedly rear-ended a Toyota Camry, causing the Camry to crash into other three other vehicles and overturn. The crash left a nine-year-old girl with a serious head injury, and her 46-year-old mother and the 35-year-old SUV driver with less severe injuries. The driver of the 4-Runner is suspected of being under the influence of prescription drugs, police said.

January 1, 2010 – Allegations of prior drunken driving convictions were added Wednesday against a woman accused of driving under the influence of depressants and killing a single mother of two walking down a Poway street last month. Becky Marie Anderson, 44, is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the November 23 death of 36-year-old Kristen Ann Bedard. In court today, Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan alleged that Anderson has two prior DUI convictions from Minnesota, in 1998 and 1999. January 1, 2010 – An unidentified man walking on I-5 in Nestor died early Saturday when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle, officials said. Around 3 a.m. Saturday, the pedestrian was walking with his back to the traffic on the southbound freeway, just past Palm Avenue, when he was struck by a Ford Expedition traveling at freeway speeds, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. The pedestrian died at the scene prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, officials said. January 1, 2010 – A 55-year-old Otay Mesa lumber storage yard worker who died when several 20-foot boards fell off a truck and knocked him to the ground was identified today. Alberto Herrera-Garcia, who lived with his wife in Ensenada, Mexico, died around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Herrera-Garcia was picking up a load of wood planks at lot on 9960 Marconi Drive a few minutes after 9:15 a.m. Thursday when the load shifted off a nearby forklift and fell onto him, officials said.
