January 25, 2010 – An elderly woman who was fatally struck by a television news vehicle while crossing a Kearny Mesa street outside of a crosswalk on Thursday, has been identified.
Betty Oi En Voon, 82, of San Diego, was crossing Shawline Street, near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, last Thursday when the accident occurred, said San Diego Police Officer David Stafford.
A driver of the KFMB Channel 8 SUV saw the woman at the last second and swerved to avoid her but failed to do so, Stafford said, adding that she suffered severe head injuries and died shortly after arriving at a hospital.
Stafford said the driver, who was not hurt, was not at fault and will not likely face any charges.
