February 2, 2010 – An elderly man has emerged as the possible driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 15-year-old skateboarder Friday, sheriff’s officials said Monday. The unidentified man told investigators he was driving along Thibodo Road Saturday evening when he came across a candlelight vigil. When he asked the participants about the vigil, he learned it was for Lucas Giaconelli, a Vista teenager who was struck and killed at that same spot the night before. February 2, 2010 – Two motorists were hospitalized with major injuries Tuesday, including a Marine suspected of having been drunk when his pickup truck crossed the double yellow lines of a rural highway in Pala and collided with a minivan driven by an Oceanside woman, authorities said. The collision between the Toyota minivan and the Toyota pickup occurred at 9:10 p.m. Monday on SR-76 in Pala, about a mile east of I-15, the California Highway Patrol reported. February 1, 2010 – A Vista skateboarder is run over and killed. The driver never stopped. Sheriff’s deputies are on the search for a hit-and-run driver who took the life of a 15-year old Rancho Buena Vista High student. Lucas Giaconelli, a freshman, was riding with three friends near Thibodo Road and Edna Way in Vista about 7 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a white Toyota Camry, sheriff’s officials said. February 1, 2010 – Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday its dealers should get parts to fix a sticky gas pedal problem this week as the automaker tries to bring an end to a recall that has affected 4.2 million vehicles worldwide. The company said in a statement that it has begun shipping parts and is training service technicians on the repairs. February 1, 2010 – San Diego Police are investigating the death of a child at a daycare center on Friday but so far they say nothing appears suspicious. It happened at Lulu’s Montessori Family Childcare on the 3500 block of Van Dyke Avenue in City Heights. Police say a caretaker told them when she checked on a 6-month-old little girl who had been set down for a nap, the baby was unresponsive. February 1, 2010 – Carl K. Davis, Jr., 28, of San Diego was reportedly speeding eastbound on the wrong side of a curving mountain section of California 78 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. February 1, 2010 – A nude swimmer at Ocean Beach wrestled with San Diego Police Saturday, who shot him with a Taser as several people tried to interfere with his arrest and 100 more watched. February 1, 2010 – According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigations (ODI), CFMOTO Powersports is recalling certain Model Year 2005 through 2009 CHG CF250TV3 and CHG CF250TV5 Scooters manufactured between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2009.
