July 29, 2010 – OCEANSIDE — A 56-year-old nursery worker killed in an industrial accident was identified as Manuel Figueroa Moreno, the Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday. Moreno was working at Evergreen Nursery on Oceanside Boulevard near Rancho del Oro Drive Tuesday about 9 a.m. when a supervisor found him with the right side of his torso and arm wedged into a conveyor belt machine on a composting machine. Moreno had stopped breathing and died at the scene.

July 28, 2010 – A San Diego Superior Court Jury on Wednesday awarded Plaintiffs Shari and Olena Novak 10.8 million dollars in damages for injuries suffered in a car crash with a Pizza Hut delivery driver in Clairmont. Shari Novak, who was 62 when the November 2008 collision occurred, received $8.6 million for medical and noneconomic damages. She suffered permanent brain damage and can no longer take care of herself on a daily basis. Her mother, Olena Novak, who was 87 when the crash happened, suffered a broken neck and other injuries and was awarded $2.2 million by the jury. …. »

July 27, 2010 – OCEANSIDE — One person was killed Tuesday when a small plane crashed in a field not far from the Oceanside Municipal Airport. The crash, which left the aircraft engulfed in flames, was reported about 11 a.m. at South El Camino Real and Vista Oceana, Oceanside police said. The twin-engine plane had just taken off from the Oceanside airport when it experienced some kind of problem and crashed about one-third of a mile away, said Michael Drake, a spokesman with county Public Works Department. Lopez was riding with her mother in a pickup on westbound Interstate 8 west of Crestwood Road about 10:05 a.m. Saturday when they heard a popping sound, investigators said. Sunday, July 25, 2010 — In November 2008, a professional driver for Pizza Hut suddenly drove her car into oncoming traffic in Clairmont, hitting the vehicle driven by Olena Novak head-on. As a result of the crash, a mother and daughter, Olena Novak, at the time 87, and Shari Novak, at the time 62, suffered severe injuries. Olena suffered a broken neck and Shari suffered permanent brain damage and can no longer feed herself, communicate or provide for her own daily care. July 2, 2010 – A 32-year-old woman was killed Thursday night when her SUV slammed into a freeway median, was struck by a car and flipped over. The driver, who was a resident of Cardiff , was the sole occupant of a black 1997 Infiniti QX4 SUV traveling north on Interstate 5 near Gilman Drive around 11:48 p.m. when for unknown reasons she hit the median, the county Medical Examiner’s Office said. July 1, 2010 – SAN DIEGO — A suspected drunken driver crashed through a chain-link fence, crossed a field and hit an electrical box early Thursday morning, leaving one passenger with major head injuries, police said. The woman, who was in her 30s, was driving a Pontiac Firebird west on Paradise Valley Road near South Meadowbrook Drive in Bay Terraces when she drove off the road, police said.
