Chula Vista Man Killed in I-5 Crash

Ali Bourgi, 42, of Chula Vista, died Thursday afternoon after being ejected from a vehicle due to a crash on the I-5 near Camp Pendleton.

Bourgi was a rear passenger in a 2003 Toyota Rav4 that rolled over.  The crash occurred around 4 p.m. when a blue Nissan 350Z entered the freeway heading south at Las Pulgas Road and started driving aggressively.  According to CHP, the Nissan sideswiped the Toyota causing it to veer out of control and flip over.

Bourgi was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, Javier Machado, 51, from National City, was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with minor injuries. The front passenger, Alicia Santiago, 50, of National City, was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with critical injuries.

The driver of the blue Nissan failed to stop immediately, but later returned to the scene of the accident according to CHP.
