At least eight people are dead and forty-two injured after a bus crashed in the Southern California mountains on Sunday night. The accident occurred in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles on State Route 38 between Mentone and Forest Falls. The bus rear-ended a sedan, crashed into a pickup truck pulling a trailer and then rolled over. Michelle Profant, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation said witnesses saw smoke coming from the back of the bus and that it was going very fast. “I heard that the driver, when interviewed by the CHP, indicated that he had problems with his brakes, but nothing has been proven so far,” she said. The bus was carrying a group from Tijuana, Mexico and heading home from a snow trip to Big Bear Lake. The tour company is Scapadas Magicas of National City, California. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
