Updated October 16, 2009 – Authorities today released the name of a 63-year-old woman who died after being struck by a van driven by a suspected drunken driver in Sabre Springs. Sandra Kay Kennedy of San Diego was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Astro van while walking on a sidewalk in the 12600 block of Sabre Springs Parkway shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police and the county coroner’s office. October 14, 2009 – A woman was hit and killed and a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Sabre Springs this morning. The woman, 63, was walking or jogging on Sabre Springs Parkway just north of Poway Road about 9:30 a.m. when she was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Astro van that jumped the curb and drove onto the sidewalk. CPR was performed by paramedics, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. October 14, 2009 – A 24-year old driver struck a 16-year-old boy on a bicycle in Ocean Beach Tuesday night before speeding off. Officers first received reports about 5:30 p.m. that a woman had crashed into a car on a nearby freeway. She then continued into Ocean Beach and struck a 16-year-old boy in the bicycle lane of Sunset Cliffs. The woman kept driving and ended up at her house on Bacon Street, where she fell asleep, police said. October 14, 2009 – A man was severely injured Tuesday when a car crashed off an East Village road, knocked him out of his wheelchair and ran over him, authorities reported. The accident at Ninth Avenue and E Street was reported shortly before 5 p.m., according to San Diego police. The sedan, which had collided with another vehicle before striking the man, came to a stop on top of the victim, SDPD Officer Dino Delimitros said. September 28, 2009 – Edward Phillip Ward, an 84-year old Encinitas man, was killed Saturday morning on SR-52, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office Mr. Ward and his wife had pulled over into the dirt median of the freeway near Santo Road. He walked across eastbound lanes to take pictures of the hills. On the way back, he was struck by a sport utility vehicle. He died at the scene about 11:30 a.m.

September 25, 2009 – A boy riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle in Encanto Thursday afternoon and was taken to a hospital. The crash was reported on Tarbox Street near Hilger Street about 4:45 p.m., San Diego police said. The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was unconscious when fire crews arrived, according to fire officials. He was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital with a head injury. An 82-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed Sunday night in National City. The woman, identified as Elena M. Firme on National City, was walking in the traffic lanes of northbound Euclid Avenue north of East Plaza Boulevard around 7 p.m. when she was hit by a pickup that was coming out of a parking lot, officials with the Medical Examiner’s office said. September 15, 2009 - Corporeal Marleea A. Gerfen, a 21-year old servicewoman from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, was killed Sunday afternoon on SR-70 near Lake Cuyamaca, the California Highway Patrol said. Cpl. Gerfen was heading south on SR-79 south of Lookout Road when her bike went down on a dangerous curve and struck a dirt berm. September 11, 2009 – A Caltrans employee and a county probation worker were seriously injured yesterday when they were struck by a car on the shoulder of northbound I-15 north of SR-94, authorities said. The female Caltrans employee and male probationer were hit by a white 1992 Infiniti J30 driven by a 50-year-old San Diego woman, who suffered minor injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer Brad Baehr.
