11 Injured In Accident At U.S.-Mexico Border

Eleven people suffered injuries Wednesday morning when a wooden overhead canopy at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro collapsed, causing a closure of the border for much of the day. The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. when wooden panels, support beams and other debris fell from the canopy onto several cars. Though three people were trapped in their cars and had to be rescued, most of the injuries suffered by the 11 people were believed to be minor, according to authorities. Officials ID passenger killed in fiery crash

Coroner officials have identified the passenger who was killed in a fiery crash involving a Jeep. Bryan Ferguson, 21, of Dana Point, was killed when the Jeep he was riding in crashed and rolled over in San Juan Capistrano. According to witnesses, the Jeep sped through a red light and sideswiped another car before crashing. Authorities have identified a motorist who was killed in a crash involving a big rig on the northbound 14 Freeway north of Santa Clarita. The accident occurred south of Escondido Canyon Road, according to authorities. Paul Clark Gillies, 56, of Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene. Six-year-old, Neve Walker, was injured Saturday after being struck by a motorboat while riding on an inner tube. She and her 10-year-old brother were being towed by a SeaDoo going about 15 mph when the boat approached from behind and veered directly into the path of the children on the inner tube. Neve was knocked off the inner tube and run over by the boat. Her brother was not injured. She suffered fractured ribs, a partially collapsed lung and cuts and bruises in the incident.

A woman from Poway is in the process of recovering from serious injuries on Tuesday after a lifeguard truck ran over her at Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla. The accident occurred right next to Lifeguard Tower 3 around 3 p.m. The victim’s name is Linda McGiness-Pleines, and she recalls that she was lying on the beach face down when the front passenger tire of the truck ran over her head and neck. A man was seriouslyinjured in an accident at a shipyard near the Chula Vista Harbor around 6 p.m. on Sunday night. He is now in a medically induced coma while he recovers from the major head and facial injuries he sustained. The man was working with a crew disassembling a 124-foot-long barge at the Marine Group Boat Works shipyard. A section he believed was still attached dropped on his head and face causing him injury.
