Eleven people suffered injuries Wednesday morning when a wooden overhead canopy at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro collapsed, causing a closure of the border for much of the day. The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. when wooden panels, support beams and other debris fell from the canopy onto several cars. Coroner officials have identified the passenger who was killed in a fiery crash involving a Jeep. Bryan Ferguson, 21, of Dana Point, was killed when the Jeep he was riding in crashed and rolled over in San Juan Capistrano. According to witnesses, the Jeep sped through a red light and sideswiped another car before crashing. Six-year-old, Neve Walker, was injured Saturday after being struck by a motorboat while riding on an inner tube. She and her 10-year-old brother were being towed by a SeaDoo going about 15 mph when the boat approached from behind and veered directly into the path of the children on the inner tube. Two bicyclists suffered serious injuries Friday morning in separate accidents in Scripps Ranch and San Carlos, according to San Diego police. Bryan Caraveo, a 48-year-old Santee resident, was hospitalized with a head injury and 15 broken ribs after being struck by a dump truck on Mission Gorge Road in San Carlos around 6:40 a.m. Caraveo was wearing a helmet and in the bike lane heading west when he was hit by a dump truck making a left turn. A man was seriouslyinjured in an accident at a shipyard near the Chula Vista Harbor around 6 p.m. on Sunday night. He is now in a medically induced coma while he recovers from the major head and facial injuries he sustained. A worker was injured Monday afternoon in an industrial accident at the main shipyard of General Dynamics NASSCO on Harbor Drive at 28th Street. The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. when a T-beam about 40 feet long and weighing around two tons rolled over and caught the left leg of the shipfitter, according to Cal/OSHA. Two local men were killed after their plane crashed in Arizona on Thursday morning. The crash occurred at the Cochise County Airport in Willcox, an area east of Tucson. The pilot, 47-year-old Glen Slagoske, and 27-year-old Shawn Muscat were in their two-seat, single-engine homebuilt plane when it crashed. Slagoske was an experienced pilot. Muscat was a 2001 graduate from Poway High School.
