Frontier Natural Products Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

Frontier Curry PowderMarch 11, 2010 –Frontier Natural Products Co-op is voluntarily recalling several of its products manufactured with non-organic black pepper that were sold under the Frontier brand and under the Whole Foods Market brands listed below that contain black pepper supplied by Mincing Overseas Spice Company. The black pepper has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Recalled products were sold in all 50 states and in some parts of Canada to distributors, retailers and consumers. Below is the list of products containing the black pepper:

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

To date, no illnesses have been associated with these products.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Quaker Snack Mix Baked Cheddar Voluntarily Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

quaker snacksMarch 11, 2010 –Quaker Snack Mix Baked Cheddar is being voluntary recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination.

Only the following product is impacted:

  • Quaker Snack Mix Baked Cheddar, 8 oz and 1.75 oz (Sell-by date: June 15, 2010) (only this date)

This is the only Quaker-branded product impacted by the recall. The date is located on the front of each package. These products have been distributed nationwide to retail stores, foodservice and vending machines in the United States.

This product contains as an ingredient the specific hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), recalled by Basic Food Flavors Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada, because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The flavor enhancer is made with an ingredient, the specific hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), recalled by Basic Food Flavors Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This recall only affects Dean’s Dip products which are manufactured by Ventura Foods. It does not affect any Dean Foods products, including dairy products carrying the Dean’s® brand.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Culinary Circle Dips Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

spinach dipMarch 11, 2010 – Orval Kent announced today that it is voluntarily recalling multiple dips as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Orval Kent dips are being recalled because they contain HVP (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) recalled by Basic Food Flavors Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Only the following products with Use By dates between 12/12/09 and 4/16/10 are being recalled:

  • Culinary Circle™ Pesto Ranch Dip, 10 oz. (UPC#: 41130-38063)
  • Culinary Circle™ Cucumber Dill Dip, 10 oz. (UPC#: 41130-38062)
  • Culinary Circle™ Spinach Dip, 10 oz. (UPC#: 41130-38061)

These items being recalled were sold under the Culinary Circle brand in locations nationwide.

Orval Kent is also recalling Albertsons brand Spinach Dip sold in any department only at Albertsons stores in CA and NV and Jewel brand Spinach Dip sold in any department only at Jewel stores in IA, IL and IN.

Toyota Tundra Recalled Due to Possible Powertrain Issues

There is a possibility that an improper weld exists at the union of the propeller shaft and yoke. Due to this improper weld, this joint may separate and the separated shaft may come into contact with the road surface.  This may result in a loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a crash.

Volvo Trucks Recalled Due to Possible Improperly Adhered Window

Volvo VNLMarch 11, 2010 – According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigations (ODI), Volvo Trucks is recalling certain Model Year 2010-2011 VNL trucks.

The adhesive used in the upper window in the bunk area to secure the glass may debond.  This could allow the glass to come loose and possibly fall out increasing the risk of a crash.

Winnebago / Itasca RVs Recalled Due to Potential Electrical Shock Hazard

sunstar 2010March 11, 2010 – According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigations (ODI), Winnebago is recalling certain Model Year 2010 Sightseer D33C, Vista E30W and Itasca Sunova D33C and Sunstar E30w motor homes manufactured July 16, 2009 through January 14, 2010.

These vehicles may have wiring from an incomplete 120V circuit that may become energized. This wire assembly was placed for an option that was not ordered or installed. The connector at the end of this circuit is not covered leaving an opening that someone could make contact with an energized conductor.  A person touching this connector may suffer an electrical shock, resulting in personal injury or death.

Sutphen Fire Trucks Recalled Due to Potential U-Joints Failure

sutphen fire truckMarch 11, 2010 – According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigations (ODI), Sutphen is recalling certain Model Year 2004-2010 Fire Trucks equipped with Detroit Diesel Series-60 or Caterpillar C-13 engines.

The driveline angle is out of tolerance with the engine mounted low.  Vibration in the drivelines and premature failure of the u-joints will occur increasing the risk of a crash.

Coil Nailers Recalled Due to Serious Injury Hazard

nailerMarch 11, 2010 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, in cooperation with Hitachi Koki U.S.A., Ltd., of Norcross, Ga., today announced a voluntary recall of Coil Nailers.

The recalled coil nailers are used to project nails into drywall, wood or other materials. The model number is NV83A2 and can be found on the body of the product. Only those units manufactured between October 2002 and September 2005 are included in this recall. The manufacturing date can be identified by the serial number engraved at the end of the handle, the first digit representing the month (1 for January, 2 for February, 3 for March, 4 for April, 5 for May, 6 for June, 7 for July, 8 for August, 9 for September, O for October, N for November and D for December) and the second digit representing the year (2 for 2002, 3 for 2003, 4 for 2004 and 5 for 2005).

The nailers could have a faulty feeder that can allow nails to be ejected sideways, posing a serious injury hazard to the user or bystanders.

Approximately 50,000 nailers have been sold in the United States and about 15,000 in Canada at Lowe’s, Home Depot, other home improvement and building supply stores and online at Amazon.com nationwide from November 2002 through March 2006 for between $350 and $400.

The firm has received 37 reports of nails being ejected sideways, including 15 reports of injuries. The injuries were primarily in the eye region, including five reports of partial blindness.
