The boy reportedly rode directly into the path of a 1982 Ford pickup truck.  The truck struck the boy and he was thrown off of his bicycle landing on the vehicle’s hood.  The boy suffered major injuries including a possible broken arm and leg.

The accident is being investigated.

His teacher at Montessori School said the boy gasped and grabbed his neck. He became unresponsive and paramedics were unable to revive him. He died at a hospital.

Neve was knocked off the inner tube and run over by the boat. Her brother was not injured.  She suffered fractured ribs, a partially collapsed lung and cuts and bruises in the incident.

The decision by Police Chief Michael Sellers came just hours before a contentious Fullerton City Council meeting Tuesday evening. More than 100 residents spent three hours at the meeting expressing outrage about the death of Kelly Thomas, who sustained serious injuries during the July 5 arrest by the officers.  During the council meeting, Thomas’ father, Ron, expressed anger about how his son died in police custody. He accused the police of beating his son.

The FBI is currently investigating whether Kelly Thomas’ civil rights were violated during the incident.  The Fullerton police have classified the incident as an “in-custody death.”  Authorities haven’t established an official cause of death and are awaiting results from a coroner’s autopsy and toxicology tests.

The July 5 incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m., when officers responded to reports that a man was trying to break into cars near the city bus depot three blocks from city hall.  An altercation took place between the police officers and Thomas, during which Thomas sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to a local hospital. Five days later, Thomas was removed from life support and died.

The incident is still under investigation by authorities.

The accident occurred the evening of December 20, 2009 in San Diego Harbor when a Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement Coast Guard vessel collided with a Sea Ray recreational boat carrying 13 people. The collision occurred during the Parade of Lights, an annual holiday boating event. The Coast Guard boat struck the Sea Ray from behind. As a result, an 8-year-old boy was killed and four other people were seriously injured. None of the crewmembers in the Coast Guard boat were injured.

The Coast Guard boat, when it struck the Sea Ray, was being operated at planing speed, which was at least 19 knots and possibly as high as 42 knots.

The NTSB recommended that the Coast Guard increase vigilance in checking the speed of their boats, establish policies that prohibit excessive speed, and develop a monitoring system to detect deviations from standard operating guidance and procedures.  It also recommended that the Coast Guard implement procedures to ensure that crewmembers can compensate for obstructions potentially affecting forward visibility on their SPC-LE vessels.

The Amtrak train crash occurred Friday morning when a tractor-trailer crashed in to an Amtrak passenger train.  The California Zephyr train was on its way to Emeryville, California.

The wreckage was deemed safe to search Saturday afternoon and search teams have been sifting through the wreckage.  The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

According to Amtrak, 204 passengers and 14 crew members were aboard the train en route from Chicago to Emeryville, California.  Shortly before 11:30 a.m., a big rig crashed into the train at a crossing on U.S. 95 east of Reno. It is estimated over 20 people aboard the train suffered injuries as result of the crash.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol, the railroad crossing gates and warning lights were working at the time of the crash. Witnesses told authorities that the truck didn’t seem to attempt to stop at the crossing and crashed through the gate. The driver was the sole occupant of the semi with two empty gravel trailers behind it.

The incident is being investigated by the National Highway Transportation Safety Board.  It is estimated that they will investigate the truck driver’s driving and medical records, as well as autopsy results to determine whether any drugs were involved.

Emako Mendoza was mauled early Saturday morning in the back yard of her home by two 6-year-old pit bulls that had  escaped from their backyard.  According to her husband, James Mendoza, she suffered numerous bite wounds and had to have her left leg amputated below the knee.  She may lose her left arm as well.

According to county Animal Control officials,the dogs got into the yard through a gap in the fence toward the back of the yard.  The dogs, along with 11 puppies born to one of the animals, were voluntarily handed over to animal control officers and were euthanized at the owner’s request.

Animal Control spokesperson, Lt. Dan DeSousa, told local media that officers have been called to the property at least twice.  One of the calls involved allegations that one of the dogs involved in Saturday’s incident had bit another homeowner’s dog. The man also suffered a minor bite to his leg attempting to break the dogs apart.

The investigation into the attack is ongoing and expected to last a couple more days. Once it is complete it will most likely be forwarded to the DA’s office.

Mrs. Mendoza remains hospitalized at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Her family asked that no further information on her condition be released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
