22 in San Bernardino found living in squalor at unlicensed group home

On Friday, September 4, twenty-two people were found living in chicken coops that had been converted into rooms as part of an unlicensed group home in San Bernardino, officials said. Investigators found 22 tenants on the property, 12 of them apparently mentally ill and two confined to wheelchairs, City Attorney Jim Penman said. Buckets were being used as toilets in two 20- by 40-foot structures in the back of a home in the 2800 block of North Golden Avenue. “It’s really squalid. Volvo Recall – Fuel Pump

On  August 28, 2009, Volvo announced the recall of their Model Year 2008-2010 S80, Model Year 2009-2010 XC70, and Model Year 2010 XC60, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Under certain conditions, the software within the central electronic module (CEM) may not send a signal to the fuel pump electronic module (PEM). This missing signal to the PEM inhibits the start of the fuel pump. Buell Motorcycle Recall – Brake Fluid Line Leak

According, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, on September 2, 2009,  Buell Motorcycle Company recalled Model Year 2009 XB12Ss motorcycles due to the fact that the front brake line may contact the front tire. 12-year old Riverside boy hit by truck

September 4, 2009 – A 12-year-old boy suffered internal injuries and fractures to both thighs yesterday when he was hit by a full-size Chevy truck while crossing a street in Yucaipa on his way to school, according to fire officials. The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. Thursday in a crosswalk along Oak Glen Road near Yucaipa Regional Park. Surgery patient sues Riverside doctor, hospital, claiming wrong kidney removed

September 3, 2009 – Francisco Torres, a retired assembly line worker is suing a Riverside hospital and doctor, claiming that they removed his healthy kidney instead of the diseased one. He has to endure dialysis every three days to stay alive. On July 14, Dr. H. Erik Wahlstrom, who was performing surgery at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center, was to remove Mr. Torres’ left kidney, Torres’ lawsuit states. Instead, Wahlstrom removed Torres’ healthy right kidney before realizing the mistake. Unemployment rate jumps to 9.7 percent

September 4, 2009 – The unemployment rate jumped almost half a point to 9.7 percent in August, the highest since 1983, reflecting a poor job market that will make it hard for the economy to begin a sustained recovery. While the jobless rate rose more than expected, the economy shed a net total of 216,000 jobs, less than July’s revised 276,000 and the fewest monthly losses in a year, according to Labor Department data released Friday. Motorcyclist killed in University Heights

September 4, 2009 – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle near the intersection of Arizona and Meade streets yesterday evening around 6:25 p.m. in University Heights, according to San Diego police. CPR was performed on the unidentified motorcyclist before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. His identity will not be made public until his family is notified. San Bernardino man killed in crash ID’d

Authorities have released the name of a 20-year-old Yucaipa man killed last night after he crashed a compact car into the back of a parked big-rig along Interstate 10 in Redlands. Victor John Partnoff died within 20 minutes of the 6:24 p.m. wreck Tuesday just east of Wasbash Avenue, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials. Riverside County Motorcyclist killed in collision with pick-up ID’d

September 2, 2009 – The 39-year-old Riverside motorcyclist who died last night after colliding with a pickup truck that had turned left in front of him has been identified by authorities. Raymond Oren Reiter died at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Community Hospital, less than an hour after the wreck along the 5900 block of Grand Avenue in Riverside, according to Riverside County coroner’s officials.
