Man Killed in 4 Vehicle I-5 Crash

An 86-year-old Corning man died in a four vehicle crash on Interstate 5 Friday evening. According to CHP, Bruno Poropat was driving a Chevrolet SUV southbound on the freeway  in the right lane just south of the Finnell Avenue exit when he apparently lost control of the vehicle due to tread coming off one of his tires.  His vehicle veered into the middle divide and then into the northbound lanes where it hit a Toyota minivan carrying three children and two adults.  The SUV was then struck on the driver’s side by a southbound 2009 Peterbuilt semi-truck driven by Leslie Pritchett, …. » Read more »

Tire Separation Named as Cause of Imperial Valley Rollover

According to the California Highway Patrol, tire tread separation is being blamed for the single rollover traffic crash that occurred on May 13th on Orchard Road south of Heber Road. A 62-year-old woman was heading north on Orchard Road in her single cab Ford pickup truck when the tread of  her right rear tire separated.  The tire tread separation caused the motorist to lose control of the vehicle and roll across the center median at least once before landing on the shoulder of the southbound side of the road. November 10, 2009 – A man and a woman in their 60s who were passengers in a sports utility vehicle that rolled down an embankment off I-15 north of Escondido were killed in the single-vehicle wreck. The victims, both from Mexico, were pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP Officer Eric Newbury. Their names were being withheld pending family notification, he said.
