December 18, 2009 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Todson Inc., of North Attleboro, Mass., today announced a voluntary recall of CO2 bicycle tire inflators. This recall involves Zefal CO2 bicycle tire inflators with a small pressurized carbon dioxide cartridge. The metal cartridge is threaded into the inflator head, which allows for the controlled release of carbon dioxide into the bicycle inner tube. The recalled inflators have “Zefal EZ+ CO2 inflator” printed on the front of the package. Model number 5602 and UPC number 798661556020 is printed on the back. December 15, 2009 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Lotus & Windoware Inc., of Memphis, Tenn., today announced a voluntary recall of ¼” Oval Roll-up Blinds. This recall involves all roll-up blinds without release clips (see picture to the left). The roll-up blinds have plastic, ¼” oval-shaped slats, and measure either 48” or 72” long. December 14, 2009 – A taxi driver and his passenger narrowly escaped death Friday when a 25-ton steel pipe rolled off a flatbed big rig traveling on an East County freeway overpass above them, plunged over the edge of the ramp and landed partially atop the cab. December 14, 2009 –A fire in the two-story building housing corporate offices for Déjà Vu/Showgirls, in the Midway area, caused substantial damage to the structure Sunday night, said Lee Swanson, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman. Firefighters were using hoses attached to ladders to pour water on the flames, which could be seen coming out of the roof of the building near the intersection of Midway Drive and Rosecrans Street. December 7, 2009 – Last year between October 31 and January 31, there were 469 reports of holiday decorating-related injuries and investigations recorded by the federal U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Extrapolated to the larger population, some 13,000 people are treated in ERs each year in the U.S. for injuries caused by festive décor, according to agency estimates.
