Park View Little League advances to US Finals

Coming behind from a 10-5 lead by Warner Robins, Georgia, Chula Vista’s Park View beat Warner Robins to advance to the US Finals of the Little League World Series yesterday. It was the sixth time this summer Park View (21-3) won an elimination game. They will face San Antonio at noon (PDT) Saturday in the U.S. championship game. A win there and Park View will face the winner of Mexico-Chinese Taipei in the LLWS title game Sunday. Police Detective Injured in Chase

On August 21, 2009, Chula Vista police said that a detective was pinned inside a police car after being struck by a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The crash occurred on Melrose Avenue and Main Street. California Highway Patrol was alerted to the vehicle, which was equipped with a Lo-Jack, and Chula Vista police assisted the officers. Officers attempted to stop the driver of the stolen vehicle using spike strips, but the driver fled before the strips could be positioned. Propane Tank Fumes Ignite Fire

On August 22, 2009, residual fumes caught fire when a forklift was refueling at a 300-gallon propane tank in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego. Pedestrian killed on road Saturday is identified

A man who was struck and killed by a car was identified yesterday as Patrick Aaron Drown, 19, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Drown, a North County resident, was struck on Buena Creek Road, east of Robinhood Road, in an unincorporated area north of San Marcos about 4 a.m. Saturday. The driver told California Highway Patrol officers that Drown was lying on the road when he was hit. Motorcycle rider dies after hitting car stalled on I-15

A 65-year-old Poway man died yesterday after his motorcycle struck a stalled car on Interstate 15 in Escondido, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said. The man, who was wearing a helmet, was northbound near Via Rancho Parkway when he struck the rear of a Volkswagen Jetta. He was thrown from his Honda CBR motorcycle, officials said. Los Angeles man killed when truck hits divider on I-805

On August 17, 2009, Alberto Cuevas Ibarra, 62, was killed when his pickup hit the center divider and rolled over on Interstate 805 at the Mira Mesa Boulevard exit, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Mr. Ibarra was driving his 1998 Ford Ranger northbound about 7:10 a.m. when witnesses reported the pickup drifted to the left and struck the median.  The truck then jerked back to the right and rolled over at the off-ramp, officials said. 2-year old found floating in hot tub

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office, authorities are investigating the death of Natalia E. Munoz, who was found floating face down in a hot tub at her home on Corral Canyon Road near Sprinter Lane.  She was taken to a hospital on Saturday evening, where she was pronounced dead.  An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. Encinitas skateboarder injured after struck by SUV

A13-year-old skateboarder was seriously injured Sunday night when he was struck by an SUV as he crossed an intersection against the light, authorities said.   The boy, who was wearing dark clothing, was riding east on Encinitas Boulevard, at El Camino Real, around 11:06 p.m. when he was hit, said sheriff’s Sgt. Defect Investigations – Volkswagen Transmission Failures

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) has received complaints alleging incidents of loss of motive power while driving due to a malfunction of the direct shift gearbox (DSG) transmission used in the model year 2008-09 Volkswagen Eos, GTI and Jetta.
