November 24, 2009 – Brennen Asam, a 14-year-old Woodcrest freshman, and his parents, Michael and Shannon Asam, perished in the 5 a.m. Sunday collision between their SUV and a big rig that was idling off Interstate 210 in Sunland, a foothills community northwest of Pasadena. The family’s two youngest members, 9-year-old Kylie and 11-year-old Blaine, escaped from the back seat before the vehicle caught fire and were rushed to safety by a passing motorist. November 18, 2009 – Two children, ages 3 and 6, were hospitalized along with an adult Tuesday after being injured in a crash in which a vehicle tumbled down a 50-foot embankment in rural North County, authorities said. The crash on Highway 79, between Sunshine Summit and Warner Springs, was reported at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Cal Fire dispatcher. November 11, 2009 – A 70-year-old woman crossing a Gaslamp street sustained a serious head injury when a sport utility vehicle struck her. The woman was crossing southbound on E Street with the walk sign around 11 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle made a left turn onto E Street from southbound Sixth Avenue and hit her, said San Diego police Sgt. October 14, 2009 – Joaquin De Lara, 51, of Tijuana, was killed early this morning when his motorcycle collided with a SUV that made a left turn in front of him, authorities said. October 7, 2009 – A blowout caused an SUV to overturn yesterday, killing an 85-year-old Adelanto woman, according to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials. Hattie Kaufman died at the scene of the 3:43 p.m. accident Wednesday at Mojave and Mesa Linda Drives. August 30, 2009 – A 39-year-old woman died Sunday evening after her sport utility vehicle careened down an embankment on Interstate 15 in Corona, authorities said. Karina Elizabeth McLeod, of Palmdale, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at about 5:45 p.m., The Riverside County coroner’s office said.
