$7.5 Million Verdict Against Starbucks

JURY VERDICT OF $7.5 MILLION AGAINST STARBUCKS IN SLIP AND FALL CASE

San Diego, CA. - After 2 and 1/2 weeks of trial, a San Diego Superior Court jury today returned a verdict against Starbucks for a total of in the case of Zaccaglin v. Starbucks. The case arose out of a slip and fall which took place in a Vista Starbucks in 2008. During the incident Anthony Zaccaglin slipped and hit his head while walking from the cashier to the pick-up counter. A Starbucks manager on duty had just been mopping in the area, and according to witnesses, apologized for not "dry mopping". Mr. Zaccaglin developed complications from his head injury and has not been able to return to work as a chiropractor. The verdict is intended to compensate the man and his family for lost income, medical expenses, and the loss of enjoyment of life - $6,456,230.50 to Zaccaglin and $1 million to his wife Lisa for loss of consortium.

The Zaccaglin family was represented at trial by San Diego-based The Gomez Law Firm. Lead trial attorney John Gomez states, "For a national chain, Starbuck's safety policies were shockingly inadequate and inconsistently applied. The family hopes that today's verdict will cause Starbucks to take safety as seriously as it does sales."
